Hazard levels and the durability of timber

To enable selection of appropriate natural durability and preservative treatment, hazard levels have been generalised and defined by AS 1604. Table 1 provides a summary of the relationship between Hazard Level and service conditions, biological hazard and use.

Although these hazard levels have been developed specifically for preservative treated timber, they are also widely used to determine service life based on the natural durability of heartwood. See table 2.
