Parquetry - installation criteria

Parquetry can be laid on a number of substrates. Broadly these fall into two categories:

1. Timber based substrates that can be strip flooring or board product.
2. Concrete based substrates.

The following criteria are important when laying parquetry:

• Timber sub-floors should be of stable moisture content and environment.
• The timber parquetry should have a moisture content matching that of the long term service environment;
• The works in general should be free of entrapped pockets or sources of moisture;
• Substrates should be dry and have a stable moisture content. For concrete slab substrates, a drying time of one calendar month per 25 mm thickness of slab is recommended;
• Substrate surfaces should be flat and level;
• The surrounding environment should be stable. Heating or air-conditioning systems should be established and operational;
• Adhesives should be used in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations; and
