Timber Flooring

This presentation and guide set looks in detail at using timber as a conventional tongue and groove strip floor on joists or as an overlay on a structural substrate.

There are several ways of creating an attractive wooden floor. The most commonly used method is traditional solid timber strip flooring.

Strip flooring is made of boards profiled with a tongue and a groove laid parallel to each other directly onto timber joists or a solid substrate.

The two most common strip flooring profiles are Face Nail (or Standard) Profile and Secret Nail Profile. Another method of flooring is parquetry, which is the process of attaching small pieces into a variety of patterns.

This presentation and guide includes:

+ selection of material

+ design considerations

+ controlling moisture

+ installation

+ sanding and coating
