Timber Building in Australia

This site is being developed as an information service to Australia's architects, engineers and building professionals.

It is being produced by architects and research staff of the Timber Research Unit of the Department of Architecture at the University of Tasmania.

This site was establishment with funds from the Forests & Forest Industry Council of Tasmania, provided on behalf of the Tasmanian Timber Industry. The Tasmanian Timber Promotion Board managed this establishment and continues to fund the site's maintenance and expansion.

The aim of this site is to provide architects and their partner professionals with the information they need to design with timber.

We hope to do this by:

• acting as a showcase for Australian design talent with timber. This is a venue to display and view the best of Australian and international timber projects.
• providing an expanding selection of technical and detailing information for designing with timber. This information is constantly being filtered so that it is of use to architectural designers and specifiers. In time, we aim to cover most areas of timber design from species selection to detail design and paint finishes.
• establishing educational resources for Australian Schools of Architecture in Timber Building.
• providing a forum to display and discuss architectural and building research on timber and its uses.
